Presence

Saturday, September 15th, 2007

I chanced upon this photo that I took also last February.

I still remember this because it was in Subic where we woke up very early to see the Hot Air Balloon for the first time.

When we got there the sun is just rising behind us. I noticed a local plant glowing in the sun. I thought this would be nice for my stock photo collection. I lie on my belly to get a nice composition. Its pretty hard to focus on the subject because of the intense light and reflection of the sun, but I got a nice shot after some manual adjustments.

As I look at it again, I remember a story from my One Minute Wisdom book by Anthony De Mello.  It’s one of my favorites:

PRESENCE

” Where shall I look for Enlightenment?”

“Here.”

“When will it happen?”

“It is happening right now.”

“Then why don’t I experience it?”

“Because you do not look.”

“What should I look for?”

“Nothing. Just look.”

“At what?”

“Anything your eyes alight upon.”

“Must I look in a special kind of way?”

“No. The ordinary way will do.”

“But don’t I always look the ordinary way?”

“No.”

“Why ever not?”

“Because to look you must be here. You’re mostly somewhere else.”

Butterfly

One of the downsides of new technology in photography is we get more photos/images in less time.  In just less than a year I managed to fill up my 200GB hard disk. Mostly photos. Now its time to ’spring clean’ my hard drive. While deciding which photos to archive or to delete, I found these images of a huge butterfly. I took these shots last February in Pulilan Bulacan, known for its butterfly farm.

Looking at the images now, I wonder what it looked like before it became a beautiful butterfly. What kind of caterpillar was it? Did it know that someday, it will be a butterfly? I found my answer.

“There is nothing in a caterpillar that tells you it’s going to be a butterfly”.

Marvin

Joanne & Manny

Thursday, September 13th, 2007

Last week, I had an opportunity to see first hand how love conquers distance, space and time. To most couples, long distance relationships don’t last very long. But some couples defy that rule, that’s the case for Manny and Joanne.

Though they work for the same company, Manny is assigned in New Jersey while Joanne stays in their Manila office. Despite the DST (distance, space and time), they are still in love with each other.

As a photographer, I’m thankful that I always see love in couples that I photograph.

The motorist made this ordinary kiss very interesting :)

Thanks to Manny and Joanne for spending the afternoon with me. Have a safe flight.

Stay in love,

Lanie and Noy

Thursday, September 13th, 2007

One of the perks of wedding photographers is that we get to meet new people every month or every week.

Last week I met Lanie and Noy.

This is for the photo souvenir design.

We had their photoshoot in St. James the Great in Alabang and The Palms.

It’s always a challenge to find good spots to shoot. It’s also a blessing that we had a nice weather.

Lanie and Noy are also very cooperative.

They are both from Laguna. Lanie is managing their family business and Noy is working in Alabang.

Despite the distance we travelled from Q.C. to Alabang, I enjoyed taking their photos.

To Lanie and Noy, thank you for the fun time.

Do you see the love (Heart)?
